just an fyi msn is discontinuing their direct service at the end of 2011 start of 2012. Here is more in depth – The gps functions fine just like any other Garmin released recently. The traffic where I am out is more of a novelty. I do not think it has ever helped me avoid a traffic issue. Usually it is better to ignore the alternate routes. Every time I estimate how long the delay was vs. the alternate route with no traffic it always was better to ignore the alternate. As for the MSN service it is a very cool feature that is going away as noted earlier. So in short buy this if you want basic gps functionality, but be wary of traffic and be aware of the MSN services demise.

Just a fair warning: The MSN Direct website states that they will shut the entire service down in 2012. So if you buy this with a view to having access to weather, traffic, movies, plane status, etc., then this will only work for two years, after that, it will turn back into a very handy and useful GPS pumpkin, the glass slippers and the pretty dress will be gone.

and sometime freeze screen and automatically turn off power.

One of the worst product from you.Garmin is best but it was of 2007 maps.Product looks refurbished and once when I call to check your agent was OMG so rude who tells me to contact directly to Garmin. He has no clue what kind of answers to give to customer.He tells me to send back the item back so he has not to deal with.
So bad experience.
Please please please stop selling this kind of grade 3 items which keeps your customer in trouble during use on trip with family and putting family in trouble though paid full amount for product(GPS).

This is a great unit… the MSN direct is the only issue… The 255w is like this unit… however this one being the 285 comes with an aditional part on the charging side that connects to MSN direct However ****MSN Direct service will be available only until January 1, 2012*** the 265 comes with the other type of traffic update… but the unit could be converted to the other by buying the other power cable (all the trafic stuff is in the power cable) however the unit is almost the same exact unit, minus the power cable.
And the unit is very good an solid.
