Unlike nearly every model before it and nearly every universal remote made, the 900 and 1100 can’t do sequences (a.k.a macros) at all. Logitech inexplicably removed sequence capabilities from it’s latest models. Evaluate your needs very carefully before buying this model.

A basic multifuntion remote will be a lot less frustrating for a basic remote. So far it does not execute all the programmed functions. The website programming software locks up and will not communicate with the remote without multiple reboots. Input list includes all those on my tv but there is no option to add all of them to the device screen. Way too much effort required and multiple updates required to try to get all devices added and funtions programmed. Still cant manage to get the cable on, the tv on and the correct input selected. Have to use guideded help every time to get everything on and off. Save your money and get a cheaper version.

Harmony 900. I’m not sure I’m gonna keep it. Received it yesterday – 2/5/10.

I promised myself I wouldn’t buy it in the first place because I knew it would be a day out of my life setting it up.

Friends hounded me til I bought. And I was right – I just wasted the day.

    My setup:

Cable box: Scientific Atlanta 3300HD DVR on Time Warner Cable

Entertainment System: Samsung HT-BD3252 Home Entertainment System

Home Theatre PC: Custom-constructed. Has Windows 7. Ran the setup program here.

    TV: Samsung UN55B8500 LED

In a nutshell, it’s very quirky and unreliable.

My main issue with it is the software, it’s a disaster on Windows 7. As soon as the computer boots, I get a message that “there are known compatibility issues” with Logitech DestopMessenger and Windows 7. I think the software is written for Vista. It couldn’t be written for Windows 7, it’s a flaky piece of junk.

The setup software is very unpleasant to use. I’m told to reset my screen resolution to 1280 x 720, which is what the software is supposed to have been optimized for. Tried that, it was just as quirky as at 1920 x 1080.

The main issue is that more often than not, what I select in drop-down list controls is not detected by the program.

Each time I select a button, a device, an icon, an infra-red command from a drop-down list… I have to do it 4 or 5 times before the program recognizes what I’m trying to do.

The other issue is that programmed activities don’t function consistently. For example ‘Watch TV’ may or may not bring my HOme Theatre’s input to HDMI1, as is expected. I am presuming that the devices I’m controlling may be as much to blame as the remote itself for stuff like this.

On the plus side, after wasting the day out of my life, I have put away 3 remotes and can do

everything they can do with this one.

Last issue: the first time I put away the three original remotes, the Harmony instantly went dead on me. Dark and lifeless, like it was completely unpowered. I had to get the original remotes back out, switch inputs back to the home theatre PC and reattach the Harmony via USB cable to the PC, then update it again. The battery charge was FULL, suggesting to me that the Harmony froze or went berserk some other way. In the next few days, we’ll see if it does that again.

This is probably a conspiracy on Logitech’s part. After putting a day into the setup, I’ve invested far more than the purchase price into this unit. For $285, the setup should have been smooth and pleasurable. I wish had had more resolve not to listen to my friends.

It’s not often I go out of my way to write a BAD review….but this Harmony 900 warrants it….

First, I am a big Logitech fan, but not after this purchase.

The appeal of this Univ. remote control is obvious, combine many remotes into one, and make events easier to implement without trying to remember which sequence of buttons to hit… the market size must be tremendous for a product like this…. and if you have a very simple arrangement with very close units, and NO UHF remotes, I am sure this product is worth the high price tag.

However, I was blown away to learn, the 900 (or any Harmony remote) will NOT send out UHF signals as used in most all the DishNetwork DVR dual tuner recievers. HUH? There is millions of the 625′s in use? And they don’t even mention this in the product information? Waste hours figuring this out, then have to send it back? That is BS… Call support in Phillipines, they don’t understand what you are asking them, and after you pound it into their head, they put you on hold to ask a more knowledgeable person to get answer…. figure about 20 minutes per question…..

The software set up is troublesome…. granted this is no easy task for Logitech, but its a critical component vs. making the 900 learn every single command by training…. just a rotten experience. A classic case of…… let the customer buy it, then figure out the shortcomings. I also agree with previous posters, the range of this remote is very poor considering the $300 price tag….

While i agree that the price is steep for this remote, I have to say it’s the best remote I have owned for my theater system. I can finally control all of my components from one simple remote. At the time I had 6 or 7 remotes to control the components and features on them, Now with the Harmony 900 I can control every feature from all my components easily. The software is very easy to use. I’m glad I choose this remote and enjoying everyday using it.
