    There’s some scientific information in this book, but there’s not much science supporting the Atkins diet.

    After all, Dr. Atkins himself died fat and with heart disease.

    Do we really think that the media, and marketing are going to guide us to healthier, happier lives?

    This book is an example to me of the misuse of the American dream, and I urge people to intelligently investigate real options for improving, and simplifying, your life. I would not recommend this book to anyone.

    There is too much evidence showing how unhealthy this diet is. It’s irresponsible to promote eating animal protein when science tells us it is the leading cause for many cancers and heart disease.

    Most healthfully eating vegans have amazingly great lipid profiles. In 25 years, when I did Atkins, my total cholesterol soared for several years to 203 in my 40′s. In my late 50′s it stays at 139. Atkins lovers, whats yours? Vegans who eat 9 or more servings of plants daily, yours?

    Interesting to see how this “version” of Atkins has morphed into so many more veggies. I wonder if the veggie versions are really Atkins at all? Sounds like an “Eat to Live” or other popular decades-old veg books on the market wannabe.

    To the person that suggested Dr. Campbell had enlisted his fans to write? Quite the opposite. We tend to be a well-read bunch, reading everything we can get our hands on, pro and con, to escape bad genes and family fates. Many of us even have Google alerts set on these topics.

    BTW, found out just this week that my second sister has breast cancer. So that makes me the only adult woman in my family without it!

    Recap: Mom, aunt, 2 sisters: breast cancer. All grandparents, parents and 1 sister: Major heart disease, diabetes. All women: osteoporosis. Grandparents and mom: Alzheimer’s. Me: I win 5K races for my age group and do half marathons. Did I get all the good genes? I think not. Many of us don’t have time to wait for 100 studies on broccoli. Oh that’s right, there’s no money to be made in broccoli. :)
