The HDC-TM700 uses the progressive method to record twice as much image data as the interlace method. Whereas interlacing requires two images to produce a complete picture, the progressive method records a single image as a complete picture. Plus, the 60 progressive recording of the HDC-TM700 produces 60 images per second. This extremely dense image information creates intricate detail and silky smooth motion. Even when subjects move quickly, afterimages are minimized to create more natural images.Panasonic HD camcorders use Leica Dicomar lenses, which are renowned for their ability to render sharp images and excellent shading. They also suppress ghosting, flare, and distortion at the image edges. Even in stron… More >>

  1. Rosa Said,

I bought this camcorder to replace my old mini-DV Sony but I have not been able to export the videos to DVD, BD or any other sources because the 1080p 60 fps is too much for regular computers, here is the terrible part of it, after several tries my computer shout down forever!!!!!!! Now I have to buy a new PC…

The only way I have been able to see the recorded videos is using the camcorder itself but now the memory is full and can’t record any more to it.

Stay away from this dangerous camcorder!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Carlos Said,

I had been using the HDC-TM300 for over a year without a problem, I really love that camcorder but I thought getting the new TM700 will be a great deal (especially under $1000) so I sold my “old” TM300 for $800 and put the difference into the Brand New Model… I could not be more regrettably, the quality of picture is pretty much the same, and the only difference you might notice is in very fast scenes like sports or reproducing your clips in a very very big HD TV (more than 52″. Everything else is equal or below the quality of the TM300. My computer that always handles very well the 1080i is now moving very slow and sometimes freezes due to the “new” 1080p 60 format… if I have a footage that can NOT be edited and transfer to a DVD or Blu-ray then the camcorder becomes a DVR machine, an a very expensive one.

I remember the list price of the HDC-TM300 was $1299.95 and today still over $1000 because it is simple a master piece of High Definition Camcorder. Panasonic knew about the problems of this model so they came out with a lower price to be able to sell it.

If you want mine TM700 for $900 with only a week of used send me an email so I go back to my very well known Panasonic HDC-TM300S Twin Media HD Camcorder (Silver)

Update: I return the Camcorder because all the problems already mentioned. Another negative point was the battery life, it was very limited due to the fan and the video processor working at 27 MB/S when using the 1080/60p format.

I’m sorry with the people that only wants to hear good thinks about this item but the trust must be hear!

  3. Alan S. Teran Said,

This camcorder is really good looking, I love it from the first time I saw it. The big problem is how to edit the footage; I have a very good computer (DELL Alienware Aurora, 3GB Triple Channel 1333MHz DDR3) but still not enough for this “demanding” camcorder when record in 1080/60p format.

  4. John M. Godden Said,

Preliminary review: I bought this cam primarily for the 60P and ‘advanced OIS’ features and the cam does DELIVER on those two fronts! I’m hoping this camera will be a VERY good handheld “sports” camera and so far that seems to be the case. No major issues so far but I’ve only scratched the capabilities of it.

I’m currently using Clipwrap to convert the .MTS files to Apple Proress 422 for ingest into FCP. FWIW, I couldn’t get FCP log-transfer to recognize the 60P MTS clips and MPEG Streamclip doesn’t currently recognize .MTS clips.

I’ll update this review soon with more comments and perhaps some links to vimeo.

  5. S. Brister Said,

For our trip to South Africa, my wife and I extensively previewed all the new camcorders for 2010, and we decided on the HDC-TM700 hands down for its performance compared to other brands (Canon & Sony in particular). We took a couple videos just for fun, testing out the picture quality inside and outside on a sunny day, and we even played around with the time lapse feature (pretty stinking cool by the way).

This camcorder has a ton of features, and they are all pretty accessible. I read a couple pages of the manual every now and then to make sure I am doing everything right. It’s an easy read and not confusing at all.

You’re not going to get an amazing low-light performer with a small camcorder like this, no matter the brand, so don’t worry about it. Everything else on this camcorder screams excellence, and we have been more than pleased with our purchase.

We plugged it into the TV to play back our videos and it looked great! Such nice picture playback, and the remote worked seamlessly with the device. My advice, read the simple manual as you go, and enjoy taking excellent HD videos quickly and easily.
