After many years of buying and discarding inferior knife sharpeners I have finally found one that sharpens even my dullest knives.

  3. Ted Wu Said,

I am giving a 4 stars for this amazing overviews. I have decided to spend extra 20 bucks on a Chromed one. However placed my order on 23 Dec 2006, to this time I am writting reviews it’s the 27th of Dec 2006 still Amazon have not yet shipped my goods out. I am saddly disappointed by this. Usu. Amazon ship it the next day or two 4 days this time they did not ship it. Yes Christmas thing but hey 2 days past it now.

The sharpener IS it any good. For me I have tried a given free cheap wetstone I must say tried it and it don’t to what I want at all if anything worse. I am not a knife pro. but I love knives. I have owned all kinds of knives from millary survival to swords. No doubt I wanna keep my Kichen knives as sharp as surgical knives. Mind less spending extra bucks for the shapener.

IF this does succeeds my need I will be posting back on the success.

Keep in mind lots of reviewers mentioned the importance of reading the manual on this product carefully. So keep that as a reminder. I always read manual for all my products so don’t feel that one is not smart or anything. Sometime manuals remind us about things we normally might left out.

  4. Richard M. Lohrey Said,

I was expecting to create a knife edge that I could shave with. Well, maybe not that sharp, but sharp enough to cut a piece of paper like butter. Maybe I’ve seen too many movies. Anyway, the sharpener is easy to use but the full verdict is not out yet. Thus far, thus good.

  5. C. Field Said,

I studied all the reviews, mostly raves, about this sharpener before ordering. I did notice a couple of negative comments by a professional chef and others, but hoped their experiences were not accurate. In fact the claims that this sharpener produces a razor edge are quite unfounded from all I can tell. I carefully read the instructions, obtained a burr as required, honed the blade many times for extra sharpness as described, etc. Knives did become sharper, but nothing close to really sharp as one would like for cooking. Cutting a paper bag edge required dragging the blade, not simply letting it fall into the paper, as a truly sharp knife should do.

I have been to Japan and observed the standard for sharpness there: a blade should cut the hairs on your arm without touching the skin. This machine does not begin to approach that realm. Instead it appears to depend for its success on low consumer expectations. Is hand sharpening on a wetstone the only answer?! Be prepared for disappointment, sorry to say. I returned mine the day after it arrived.
