Martin Yale Premier Automatic Handheld Battery-Operated Letter Opener, Concealed Blade, 1-3/4″ Long

I have already bought 2 of these (one for me, one a gift for someone), and may even be buying more as extra Christmas gifts!
Sure they’re not as sturdy as the electric letter openers that cost like $300 – but seriously they do what they’re supposed to and that’s all you can ask for. After opening a ton of mail, I’d find my hands were literally tired, so I needed something to help. I shopped around but all the letter openers out there that are electric or ‘automatic’ or what have you were way too expensive for my budget. After reading the great reviews on this one I tried it, and am so glad I did.
The instructions really do come in every language BUT English, however this is really not a problem at all since there are pictorial instructions literally on the opener itself. The batteries go in in a snap and in just a few seconds you’re up and running. I’ve found the best way to use this product is to have it resting on a flat surface or table top, and run through the ‘short’ end of the envelope, as opposed to opening up the whole long side of one (make sure you ‘sift’ the contents to one side before opening!) You can use this opener in your hand if you want to, but beware user error is a little more likely that way, and you may get some lopsided cuts. Resting on a flat surface, you’re going to get straight consistent cuts every time.
With some practice, using it by hand is fine too, but I prefer the consistency of having it on the table or desk.
It is very fast, and neatly trims a very small edge off of your envelope.
When I bought this item, I wasn’t sure how much time or effort it really was going to save me, but truly it does save a lot of both – no more fussing with envelopes at all, this thing does all the work for you.
You could still take several envelopes, sift their contents down, and use a pair of scissors to cut open the short edges of several at a time … which would save you the $17 and batteries … but for as convenient as this product is to have sitting on your desk at all times, and for as well as it works, I highly recommend it. With it you don’t have to mess around with envelopes at all, just zip ‘em through. Plus it makes opening mail just a smidgen more fun.
Overall a great buy, and I’d imagine a valuable must-get for anyone with hand mobility problems.

This letter opener works fine. I had to add my own little rubber feet, so that it didn’t slide around, but having done that, now it works fine.

Bought this for a friend who has difficulties using his hands and cannot open mail. Good quality at an excellent price.

I bought myself one of these 1624′s from an office supply house this past summer.
Have used it for a few months and I have nothing but good things to say to you about this little machine.
Then through Amazon dot Com, I bought two more as gifts, because I like mine so much.
And I like the people to whom I sent these 1624′s.
Now what does that tell you?
About how much I like the 1624.
Need I go into detail about the little machine’s selling points, or gift-giving points?
Ok, you asked for it.
A number of years ago, it dawned on me:
If you’re pretty sure that you’ll use something every day, then go ahead and buy it.
Well, I use my 1624 every day and it puts fun into what was always a minor nuisance.
Zip those suckers open lickety-split.
Trust me, it’s fun.
What surprised me is that I’m still on the first set of AA batteries that I originally installed last summer and it still opens the mail real fast.
I like this little hand-held battery-operated letter opener.
It’s fast.
Quick.
Easy.
Fun.
No electric wires, no transformer, no desk space needed.
Unobtrusive, inconspicuous, handy as heck.
My 1624 is just a little friend of mine.
You might think that it looks like a toy, but no, don’t judge it by its outward appearance folks.
And don’t be afraid that you’ll be buying new batteries every week.
Nope.
Good little machine.
Amazing.

Put in the batteries, and you’ll be buzzing open your mail in a jiff. You’ll be looking for junk mail to open because it’s so much fun. Now I have one fewer excuse for paying bills late.
Comes with instructions in 8 languages, including Russian, but not English. But it’s so simple, it doesn’t matter.
